Psalm 27:4 (KJV)
“One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life…”
David's desire was not simply to visit God's house occasionally. He had developed a heart that longed to be where God was honored and where God's people gathered.
Our priorities reveal what our hearts value. When church becomes something we attend only when it is convenient, we can slowly lose our hunger for corporate worship. But when we understand the blessing of gathering together, our attitude changes from “Do I have to go?” to “I get to go!”
There is something powerful about setting aside time to gather with God's people—to worship, pray, hear His Word, encourage one another, and be reminded that we are part of something greater than ourselves.
Today, ask God to restore a desire for His house.
Prayer
Father, give me a greater desire for Your presence and for the gathering of Your people. Help me never to view church as merely another appointment on my calendar. Give me a heart like David—a heart that seeks after You and desires to be in Your house. Help me make gathering with Your people a priority. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Today’s Declaration
“I desire God's presence, God's Word, and God's people. I will make His house a priority.”
Reflection
What competing priorities have sometimes taken the place of gathering with God's people?
